Nature

Nature Itinerary

Butterfly House and Gardens of Hope | 902-964-4300

Located within the Gardens of Hope is a wonderful little greenhouse that is home to imported tropical butterflies from Costa Rica. The 12-acre garden was carved from the hills and shoreline along the Clyde River. The sanctuary contains a variety of pathways, outlooks and structures designed to capture nature’s beauty.

Hillsborough River Eco-Centre | 902-676-2050

The Centre, which includes an elevated observation area from which the Hillsborough River can be viewed, informs visitors about the natural and cultural history of the Hillsborough River basin through its photo collection, artifacts and story panels.

Jurassic Bart’s Dinosaur Museum and Petting Farm | 902-886-2398

View the largest collection of real dinosaur eggs in Eastern Canada. See evidence of arthritis, healed broken bones, fused spines that let you imagine how tough life was for dinosaurs. Many more fascinating topics brought to life again by real fossils, museum quality reproductions and dioramas. Our petting farm features baby farm animals who enjoy being petted and fed.

Macphail Woods Forestry Project | 902-651-2575

The Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project combines the protection of natural areas with forest stewardship, wildlife enhancement, research, and education. Come walk the trails, visit the Nature Centre, and see the 2,000 acres of beautiful public land.

Stanley Bridge Marine Aquarium and Manor of Birds | 902-886-3355

This institution presents the lifelong study and work of Mr. Willie Labrie of Kamouraska, Quebec: North America’s finest private collection of over 700 mounted birds. Also exhibited are displays of Maritime fur-bearing animals and of butterflies from around the world.

Tryon Museum | 902-658-2009

The Tryon Museum interprets the Indigenous, Acadian, and early European settlement of the area. The unique, vintage radio collection tells the story of commercial broadcasting on the Island. A nature trail links the historical sites of the area and interprets the Tryon River Watershed.
